[ She presses her lips together and really thinks on how to put it. Her hands gesture around without aim. ]

But, if the unethical thing means sacrificing people or something of theirs for your beloved...

[ She can't even finish her question. ]

I wouldn't sacrifice people.

[ Or at the very least, she would first convince herself they're not real people in the first place. Which leads to-- ]

But if that's "something," then I think it is justified long as you do it for the sake of your love.

[ Oh, Gabrielle is kind of terrified at the prospect, but strangely amused, like morbid curiosity just can't stop tickling at her. She's none the wiser, as she would've done anything for her love as well. ]

I see, understandable. I suppose I just have a ... threshold as to what I would do.

[ ~~Condeming forty thousand souls to eternal, unjust torment for instance.~~ ]

Have you ever had to do that kind of thing?

[ She wasn't sure she wanted to say it though... It wasn't horrifying on a thousands-of-souls levels, but still. ]

But that's complicated. [A pause.] Imagine if Alexa from amazon was getting in the way of your love. Nobody would think about it twice and would remove it, right?

[ .... That metaphor may not work if the person doesn't know amazing, but everyone hates amazon, right? ]

[ The metaphor is not only lost on Gabrielle, it confused her more. For she's an ancient Amazon Queen, and she's not aware what the name Amazon has begun to mean to a lot of modern people. She also has both of her breast, so people might not even believe she's an actual Amazon either. ]

Who... from where? And what?

[ The confusion is pure poetry. It's raw and frankly amusing. ]

[ Oops. Right. Not everyone here is from the modern era. Even if they are, odds may be they're from a country where amazon has yet to extend its iron grip on the delivery market. ]

Oh... Amazon is a company, ahaha! A corporation, a delivery giant, amongst other things. [She hoped that explained it.] Alexa is an AI they created. It stands for Artificial Intelligence. [There was a certain irony to Monika trying to speak of an AI as if it wasn't alive. She raised a finger.] I suppose you could compare it to a very rudimentary machine. Alexa has no sentience, so it's really not alive.

[ The amazons were already dwindling in her era, but this still felt odd, almost heartbreaking in her gut. A company, corporation, something so foreign. Far from a tribe. Gabrielle shook her head and waved the thoughts away. ]

What a name to pick, of all things. [ She clears her throat. ] So, you'd be willing to get rid of an artificial intelligence [ Whatever that means ] Standing in the way of your loved one? Why would it stand in the way?

[ Welcome to the modern era where nothing is sacred and everything is monetizable. That made Monika just what time period she was from... No matter, she should answer her question. ]

Well, usually they're programmed to be that way. [Oh gosh, how did you even begin to explain that to someone who didn't know computers? Hm...] Like... Characters in a book! They can only do what they were written to do, right? Now, imagine if the characters from a book came to life— But they can only ever do what they were written for. So like, a character who was written only to get between you and the one you love, they'll never be able to do anything but seek to get in the way of your love.

[ For our sake, let's hope Gabrielle doesn't find more about this Amazon thing. It wasn't abnormal for Monika to be unable to tell where Gabrielle comes from, really. She hardly looked like from any specific era these modern people knew of and the dragon tattoo on her back is misleading enough to make you think of ~~Jappa~~ Japan. Gabrielle herself didn't know how much these modern folks knew about her and her adventures if at all. Rather, she looks like she comes from a costume fitting for a movie about ancient heroes. Gosh, being from a different era was tough! But gladly, she understood what Monika meant, at least on some level. ]

That does seem pretty annoying. But wouldn't the character coming to life mean it's coming to LIFE? Wouldn't it be alive in some way? Would that still constitute something? I suppose an artificial intelligence -- that feels odd to say -- is not like a human, right? But... I still wouldn't feel so good about getting rid of it.

Ahah... Ah... Well, after a fashion I suppose you're right. [Oops, called out. But no time to hesitate.] But like, if it's getting in the way of someone that's real, someone that's really alive— Does it really matter?

[ The truth is that she's really not trying to convince Gabrielle. She's trying to convince herself. It's easier to cope with awful things you've done if you completely dehumanize the people you've wronged. More so when they're just NPCs in the first place. ]

I was once in a really precarious situation and three of those AIs tried getting in between me and my love. Honestly, I don't think it to be an overstatement than to say it was a matter of life or death. [A pause as she looked down.] I wouldn't say I feel good about what I had to do... But they were just AIs. Lacking in real personality. And they kept me separate from my love. Should I really feel guilty over it?

[ Oh, that's rough. Oof. Moral dilemmas were hardly new to Gabrielle, having battled with those all her young life with her mentor, Xena. But this felt far more existential, like it had a brand new layer to it.

Gabrielle hummed and crossed her arms, starting to pace back and forth as she thought about it. She did try her best to put herself in Monika's shoes, but it was hardly a one on one comparison. ]

Love does tend to blind us and our judgement. I can't tell you to feel guilty either, or to not to. I guess... I just don't understand it entirely. [ Pause. ] I suppose the question is: Was it worth it?

[ Monika didn't reply right away. Had it been worth it...? The fact was that she knew the answer. It hadn't been, not even a little bit. She knew it and yet if things were to happen exactly as they had before... Much as she wanted to better herself... Who could bear living all alone in a digital nightmare? Who wouldn't sacrifice everything for the sake of feeling alive, for the sake of no longer being alone and trapped? But then she remembered her friends. ]

... [She closed her eyes and tilted her head down.] ... No.

[ She sighed and shook her head. She couldn't lie. Not when the guilt still weighed upon her so much. ]

[ And Gabrielle had no idea about all of that. If she knew the depths of how it all feels, she would even consider doing what she did. It was understandable, and she knew how it felt to be left behind and all alone. After all, she was without her soulmate and that was as hollow pain as anything in this world. Gabrielle felt bad, even if she didn't know it all, something visceral told her something was wrong. ]

Love is tough, isn't it?

[ It's all she could say. God, did she know all about it. The strongest force in the world, could do so much damage. ]

Yeah...

[ She nodded and opened her eyes anew. ]

The scariest part is that I'd probably do it all over again if it happened again. [Not something she was proud of, but the other woman seemed to be fairly understanding how how she felt so she might as well admit it.] Right now it's easy to reason myself into seeing how senseless it is, especially as I am talking to someone else, you. But when you're driven into a corner all alone, it gets harder to think about those things properly. It's easier to rationalize doing horrible things.
