unpopular opinions

Do you think people are too sensitive? Or that Superman isn't so super? Think cats aren't cute? The Beatles are overrated? Love pineapple on pizza? Maybe you just don't like chips rly. Even the best of us have some controversial opinions. Let people know what a monster you are.

top level

with your characters’ unpopular and/or controversial opinion. Or share few of them at once. In person or via text. Prepare for disagreement.

to tell them why they're wrong, validate a kindred spirit, or just troll them for caring about such a silly-ass thing in the first place.

A puppet then.

[ Did she not know that Palpatine was actually impressed with his attempts to build his own Empire in the shadows? Clearly not. ]

Of course it was. You know little of the Sith and the rituals Palpatine sought to imitate. He desired power, and discounted mine. Mistakenly.

[ Because Palpatine was dead. ]

Palpatine's interests would have been better served had the Jedi remained in the dark about the existence of the Sith. They still believed Dooku to be a friend - and would have, had his ties to the Sith Order not been seen. But instead, he relieved their existence to arrange the assassination of a Jedi Master, with ties to the Grandmaster and a much-beloved friend of Dooku - which turned Dooku against him, causing a security issue. All to get to me.

What were you worth? A nanny-droid?

[ He may, possibly, be laughing at her. ]

A puppet implies I required control. A servant, yes, I harbour no illusions about that. And now steward in his stead. Only one of us is deluded enough to think they meant more.

[Impressed? Perhaps, in the same way one might be that a pet lothcat learned a new trick - Palpatine's system had required his presence, true, but it masterfully balanced itself so long as that was true.]

Mistakenly? He took you with him, for all your storm and thunder. An enemy I could have defeated any time he required it of me with a handful of DEMP devices.

[Had she devoted time to figuring out how to kill Vader if Palpatine had commanded it? Absolutely. Frankly, the larger problem would have been the fleet officers who would have had to go with them. They were harder to replace. Jerec, Tremaybe, Hethrir - any of them could have filled Vader's boots. But that's just it, isn't it? the arrogance of the Sith to think they were irreplaceable. The Jedi in another shade - at least Palpatine had tried to rise above the old paradigm, casting off the Dark Lord title to Vader and striving for something greater still.]

You speak about factors that do not matter to the grand design - you understand nothing, perceive nothing of the whole. Do you truly not understand? By the time Dooku was corrupted it didn't matter - the Jedi Order was already ensnared in a fatal trap. Knowing he was Sith only made it so they had even less opportunity to escape it - focused on destroying their eternal enemy, they failed to look within and around themselves.

Darth Maul having already accomplished his most useful purpose - destroying the only reformist who truly stood a chance at breathing new life into a moribund structure.

I don't need to defend my worth to you. I know what I achieved, I know my value to the Empire.

[Not least of which being: which of the two of them had Palpatine been working on replacing, hmm?]

You think he doesn't control you still?

[ Because Vader does. ]

A DEMP couldn't have killed me. An inconvenience? Yes. Painful? Yes. But pain is fuel and if Mustafar couldn't kill me, I'd survive your pathetic attempts.

[ Because they were - dying on the second Death Star just means he wasn't fueling himself with the Dark Side - he understands that would kill him. But something as simple as not doing able to breathe? Did she truly not know how often that game was played? ]

You, silly child, still believe Palpatine meant the Empire to be something other than a machine to funnel power into his hands. That he cared about the galaxy as a whole. He didn't. They wouldn't even have come close to discovering what Palpatine was if they weren't looking for a Sith, blind to even a pitched battle between two on their own home planet. He wasn't trusted because he came to power in the midst of the Sith reassurance. His master understood that but overplayed his hand. He trusted his apprentice. Palpatine never forgot to fear his own.

You don't, for you have not even an understanding of what it was, so deluded with a politician's words. It's almost quaint.

[ If you aren't worth killing, you aren't worth leading or teaching. It's always been true for the Sith. ]

Why do you think he didn't want anyone to know what he truly was? Why it was a capital offence?

If I walk on the path he chose for me, then all shall be well in the end, won't it?

[Oh, she does. She knows every assassination attempt, even the silly ones Xizor had tried. That's the thing about DEMP devices and Darth Vader. She knows what's inside better than most. Oh, their ridiculous force powers can keep the oxygen going - but knock out the servos in those legs. Demolish the ability of his hands to properly hold his weapon. Knock out the enhanced sensors in that helmet. Leave him blind and helpless inside his shell, where all his rage couldn't save him. Then, well, the question becomes one of what firepower finishes the job.]

[Granted, she could just as easily bribe someone or slip an agent onto Vjun to sabotage his bacta tank or his healing chamber. Asymmetric attacks - not merely trying to kill him head on with blasters. None of which she says out loud, because never show all your cards. She merely smiles.]

So you say. But underestimation was always your failing, in the end. Scarif, Yavin, Hoth - always a little late and a little short.

He had other designs. Not that I know the details...but there was something beyond known space he was preparing for, I know that much. He obscured the whole, but I have access to his private library and files now, so...I know vastly more than I did.

[She smiles, thinly, seating herself.]

As to his public image and propaganda...if you haven't figured that out, I won't waste my time attempting to teach you. And the funny thing about all of this? It doesn't matter, not really. Not anymore.

Because I rule now. I remain loyal to my Master, but things will be done my way now. While you fade like an old ghost story.
