I thought there was basically a whole genre of pop culture proving how awesome vampires are.

Depends on the vampires. Most don't have much in the way of ambitions beyond their next meal. More to the point, someone amongst their number will still need to rule over them in turn as there can only really be one at the top.

Yes, infighting is such an annoying thing. In that we're not too different from humans.
