[Gen's hand clenches around something in her jacket pocket and she juts her chin out defiantly as she steps closer to Castiel, posture as threatening as she can manage with her just-over-five-feet frame.

This is harder to do without fire but she honestly doesn't know if she can burn an angel, and that pisses her off even more.]

But you are. You told me yourself, your kind are on humanity's evolutionary tree. And your abilities aside, you seem to be fundamentally of the same construction.

They threw us out of the human club. They say we're just freaks and mistakes and too dangerous to be among them. And y'know what? I don't usually stay somewhere I'm not wanted.

Mutants aren't humans.

You're certainly not the first group they've treated in such a way, and none of them have had the distinction of being on a different evolutionary branch altogether. Does it really make a difference?

Yeah. It really makes a difference.

Why?

You said fighting with heaven doesn't make an angel a demon, right? So what if I was just like "yeah well, I heard it does so I'm gonna call you demon from now on, demon. You're a demon to me and that's what matters." Wouldn't it piss you off?

It would be... annoying, and factually inaccurate, but it wouldn't change anything. Demons and angels have a completely different physiology from one another. That's what makes us different species.

Oh, okay. You wanna see what makes me a different species from humans?

[Arguing identity while Castiel's hung up on literal meaning probably isn't the best move, but Gen will make one last attempt to win him over. She pulls out the lighter that's been clutched in one hand and strikes it, then holds her other hand over the flame and pulls it into that hand's open palm. When she turns it palm-up, the fire sits there like a dog at heel and flickers in a slightly too-controlled way.

Then she pockets the lighter and switches the flame back to that hand in a shimmering stream.]

[ his eyes follow her movements with a careful, controlled tic, his eyebrows raising a twitch at the way she yokes the fire with her power. he feels no push of magic, so it must be a natural ability, or at least he assumes that it is. he wonders how it functions. ]

Pyromancy? Impressive. And you were born able to do this?

We call it pyrokinesis, but yeah, basically. Not like I only use my mind anyway - I can feel it all through me, all the time.

[There’s definitely a new light in her eyes now that she’s got a little pool of flame in her hand, and her smile has taken on a certain feral energy.]

It’s like having infra-red senses. Anything hot enough that it could catch fire, I can give it that little push… and then it’ll do whatever I want.

So, this ability is a part of you.

[ he's intrigued by the possibilities; he has a similar capability himself, to be able to control fire, but it isn't so deeply imbedded beneath his skin as it seems to be beneath hers. it clearly has some deeper meaning, and he can't help but wonder why. ]

Do you use it to do battle?

Yeah, sure. Sometimes self-defense, sometimes full offense. Depends how bad I get pissed off.
