unpopular opinions

Do you think people are too sensitive? Or that Superman isn't so super? Think cats aren't cute? The Beatles are overrated? Love pineapple on pizza? Maybe you just don't like chips rly. Even the best of us have some controversial opinions. Let people know what a monster you are.

top level

with your characters’ unpopular and/or controversial opinion. Or share few of them at once. In person or via text. Prepare for disagreement.

comment

to tell them why they're wrong, validate a kindred spirit, or just troll them for caring about such a silly-ass thing in the first place.

Humans shouldn't be responsible for their own security.

What are we now, cattle?

If "cattle" means "easily damaged and incapable of handling multiple simultaneous inputs", then yes.

So who, exactly, do you think should take care of us?

I don't know, maybe you could trust the bot/human constructs you built for that exact purpose to do their fucking job?

If we can't protect ourselves, why should we trust the things we made to do it for us?

[personal profile] recognizance 2022-09-18 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, especially when it's so much easier to just fry our brains if we do anything you didn't order us to.

I meant, as you know, that if we're flawed in that way, wouldn't anything we create be so flawed?

What? That doesn't even make sense. Humans build machines to do all kinds of shit you can't do for yourselves.

I'm speaking about protection specifically. If we don't know how do it on our own, how would we know how to program a machine to do it?

But if you're an example of one we built for that purpose, then I'd say we royally fucked up.

[ okay, now it's just pissed off. ]

It's got nothing to do with knowing how. I'm faster, stronger, and harder to kill than you are. My reaction times are better, and I don't get tired. Plus I don't insult people I just met for no fucking reason.

Vulnerabilities and exploits are the price of admission

not to 'being human' (that's crap)

but to security

the only truly secure system is isolated

Yeah, but good luck getting them to go for that.

Heh good point.

Do you want to protect humans? or were you told to?

[ oh, okay, we're just going straight for the personal questions, huh. Murderbot pauses, wary. ]

Some of both.

Meaningful consent is an important idea that no one seems to believe in.

More important than humans being protected is our being worth protection.
