To be fair to Orodreth, the sky being blue is a relatively recent occurrence. Who knows? It could change.

We really do need to rethink our priorities.

I think it's been long enough for it to be common knowledge by now. It could certainly, but will it?

Ah, but for every one of us there are three opinions of who should go first.

[Plurality of votes probably goes to Crazy Uncle Feanor, but there are so many candidates Fingon isn't even sure he gets a majority.

A pause] That in particular? No, perhaps not. The broader principle.... I don't know. Middle Earth is a place of great changes, it seems.

Only three? Sometimes it feels closer to six opinions.

[He'd be the last person to disagree with that. His father was many things, crazy among them, but then again so were most people in their family.]

It is one of it's better qualitites, at least sometimes.

We have to stop counting somewhere, or there'll be nine, twelve- however many they can get away with.

You're probably right about that, our family do tend to take things to extremes.

The seasons here, mostly. They didn't change so drastically back in Valinor.

So holding rather blasphemous opinions is, if not precisely popular among our wider kindred, certainly perfectly Finwean. And that's-

They can be quite striking, yes. So many remarkable colours, particularly in autumn.

No. Not lonely at all I think. A bit frustrating at times maybe when things get a bit to intense and tempers start flaring. Even when we agree with eachother we usualy find something to argue about.

[He gives an amused huff of laughter at the thought.]

I do enjoy watching the leaves change colors. Especially when there is a clear blue sky outside, it makes for a lovely picture.

So if we're all together hanging determinedly on to our Very Individual opinions, what really does count as an unpopular one?

Sunrise and sunset as well. Not the Mingling, perhaps, but lovely in their own right.

[A small smile] And, of course, both they and the autumn leaves feature a colour I am very fond of.

Who knows. Outside of the family a lot of our opinions still count as unpopular one however, even if the rest of us find them to be common sense.

Different, yes, but perhaps even more beautiful for it. I would not enjoy the suns rising and setting as much as I do if it were just a lesser version of what came before it.

Oh, is that so? [He gives his cousin a teasing grin.] And what colour would that be? Yellow, perhaps? Or orange? There are so many to chose from during that season after all.

And yet there must be a reasons they keep deciding to follow us. Unless you think bloodline is sufficient. I admit to finding the latter possibility depressing.

I was going to suggest that our people have always been a bit mad at times, deciding to follow us was probably just a symptom of that madness.

[He makes a show of looking surprised, it's not terribly convincing however.]

Do I now? I suppose I could guess, might it be... red? I do think it might be so.

So who knows? Perhaps if you stood up and proclaimed the Valar rather dubious judges of character and action, most would just nod and respond that they hadn't known anyone thought otherwise.

They wouldn't be completely wrong if they did so, though I think the Vanyar and the Teleri might have been rather scandalized if such an event had ever occured.

I think I might have an inkling about which shade you might be referring to. Don't you worry though, my lips shall remain sealed about the matter.
