Quite frankly: It's just good fun. Particularly because it's usually sandwiched with stuffy gatherings and people who [and she switches to a perfect impression of the poshest accent that she can think of] speak like this.

[And then she drops back into Cockney.] I've never been a great rider, so it's just the right kind of challenge for me, too.

Not that I'll ever do it again, most likely.

[ A laugh. ]

So it's fun by contrast to absolute awfulness?

Kinda? I mean, if you like physical exertion hunting on foot will be more fun, and I'd always rather go to an amusement park. But being out and about on a horse is fun, and being able to more or less escape socialling while still being seen as being social is pretty excellent.

Word's out there about the dogs. I don't mind them, but...

You know, I've never ridden a horse? Just never had the opportunity. It sounds like fun. But I'm one of those horrible people who actually likes socializing, too, so.

[ Curious: ] You don't mind them, but?

See, I don't mind socialising at all, I'd just prefer to not do it with toffs.

There's just too many of them. We never had pets growing up.

"Toffs." [ Bella, American that she is, is delighted by this term. ] They're easy enough to handle if you tell them what they want to hear. I don't think they're that different from everyone else, that way.

Is that why you probably won't do it again? Too many dogs?

Not hard to handle, no, but really not into topics I'm genuinely interested in. Or into the kinds of clothes I care to wear if I don't really, really have to.

And nah. I just don't run in that kind of circles these days.

So what are you genuinely interested in, besides fox hunting?

Oh, they most definitely don't.

...I mean, I'm not, but asking like that really makes the answer harder. [She laughs.] My daughter's well-being, I guess? Whatever show's great on Netflix right now? [And then a ton of things she can't really just talk about with a stranger.]

[ A laugh. ] Did you watch that tiger one?

I haven't yet! Would you recommend it, particularly taking into a account that a child might be watching?

God, absolutely not. It's full of awful people and the most ridiculously illegal stuff I've ever seen in my life. That cat lady's lawyers must have had a field day.
