So if I learn Latin, then I'll know thirteen other languages?

[Whelk sometimes wonders why bright students of his receive low grades despite their intelligence.

That's not what I said.

It will aid you in learning other languages should you choose to study them.

And it will help you with English, which you are already learning.

What is the importance of learning other languages?

Travel, for one.

[Part of being a teacher is knowing what motivates a student, and even though Whelk hates his job and all of his students (including Mr. Kageyama here), he's good at what he does. Also, Tobio literally never shuts up about volleyball ever, and it is no mystery to absolutely anyone that he is on the team - setter, we know.]

Would it not benefit you to be able to communicate if you were to begin playing internationally?

It's Latin 1. That's the beginner's course. You'll be starting from scratch just like everyone else, and there are accommodations in place for English-Second-Language students.

If you study and put the work in, you'll be fine.

[He should get paid a dollar for every reassuring word he has to force out of his mouth at an aimless student.]
