You're telling me that when they find out you're not a human even though you look exactly like one, they're just like "wow that's so fuckin' cool, I love you, I hope there are more of you out there so I can love them too, we're so alike but different, this is great."

My friends knew I wasn't human the moment we met. Their positive estimation of my species didn't last for long, but I don't think they had any choice but to change their opinion. We aren't particularly kind. Or... good, for that matter.

[backdrafter]

Ohhh, I get it now. They got in your head. They love you 'cause you hate yourself and what you are and as far as they're concerned, that's how it should be.

And you call them friends. Fuckin' bleak.

[messenger]

They— No, that's not how— They don't want me to hate myself. I just— I've made... mistakes. [ which is really besides the point. ] I'm not like most of my kind.

[backdrafter]

[Gen's mollified, if only slightly, by the man's assertion that his entire kind aren't as bad as he first said. But it does raise the question.]

A mutant. What does that entail? I've never heard of such a thing.

[ cas pauses, tilting his head. ]

Yes. As in, "of the Lord". Granted, I rebelled, but it doesn't make me any less an angel.

Holy shit, doesn't that make you a demon or something?

[Give her a moment, she'll explain the mutant thing eventually. Right now she's busy developing a deep fascination with the person she was just insulting seconds prior.]

[messenger]

[ it's all right, he's patient. he'll wait for the explanation— in the meantime, he rolls his eyes. ]

No. It does not. Don't believe everything you read— Demons are former humans. When an angel falls, nothing about us changes, except that we no longer have access to Heaven.

And. Well. Betraying one's orders isn't taken lightly.

To be fair, I never read it. Think I heard that in a movie or something.

[Demons being former humans makes a whole lot more sense to Gen, quite frankly, but they'll get back to the inherent shittiness of humans in a bit.]

[ his brow arches with something like disdain. movies are even less accurate, but he's not going to get into the dubious quality of human entertainment right now. ]

I mean, I assume they do. They just fucked off after my mutation manifested so I never got it from the asshole's mouth or anything, but when you leave the state and don't tell your 12 year old kid? Gotta assume that's why.

[She's clearly trying to sound casual about it, but her eyes are lit from within with smouldering hatred.]

It's a mutant thing. We're a new evolution on the homo sapiens line, homo sapiens superior, and humans hate us for it. [After a pause.] Wait. If you're... does that mean... creationists were right about God but wrong about everything else? That would be fuckin' hilarious, please say yes.

[messenger]

Perhaps he was protecting you from something? My friends' father used to leave them alone all the time.

[ he has no idea her situation, though, of course. ]

Interesting. And you're in a struggle for power with them? [ his head gives a tilt. ] All religions have some threads of truth in them, but they're mostly wildly inaccurate. I suppose Creationism was right about God creating the universe and the Earth through... natural means. Science, evolution, they're all mostly accurate as far as you understand them.

[backdrafter]

Bullshit. They were protecting themselves from me.

The boarding school where I live is full of kids that were kicked out, abandoned, abused, experimented on... Professor Xavier started it because there's always so many of us. Human parents don't care once we turn out to be mutants. And you call that a power struggle? Pretty fuckin' unbalanced in their favour, isn't it?

It does seem... unfair. [ he sighs. ] But humans have a history of this kind of behavior, so it isn't exactly surprising.

[backdrafter]

They're pitiable creatures. But they are capable of quite astounding acts of selflessness.

[backdrafter]

Yeah, that's definitely not what humans who believe in all that shit say about us.

It doesn't mean they're right. You're human, just same as they are. God wanted you to exist.

[Gen's hand clenches around something in her jacket pocket and she juts her chin out defiantly as she steps closer to Castiel, posture as threatening as she can manage with her just-over-five-feet frame.

This is harder to do without fire but she honestly doesn't know if she can burn an angel, and that pisses her off even more.]
