Why does everyone keep saying that?

Sure a good bleeding doesn't fix everything but they're excellent when used along with other treatments.

I'm no doctor but if I recall, medical science let that go about the time we invented aspirin.

That of course depends on the sickness! Purging, herbal remedies, rebalancing the humors, amputation depending on the circumstances - some go for 'magic' but I am of course a man of science - so I must ask what is an 'aspirin'?

Oh. Acetylsalicylic acid. Not entirely unlike paracetamol. You know, a little, bitter white tablet. Good for mild aches and pains.
