Oh, I have no point. I'm only here to listen to myself talk, like everyone else is. But you gave me an opening to argue about my favorite topic, so I have.

[And frankly, he feels like he's won, whether she takes any of what he's said as advice or just noise from a famous literary vampire. She's given him no reason to wish her either success or failure, so he can be entertained rather than invested. Which is sort of refreshing.]

In my experience, power without finesse is no more than a cartoonish means to one's eventual self-destruction, but perhaps you know better.

I take it you've never heard of the Witches of Salem or their descendants? [She's asking genuinely and not trying to come off insulting and bored, but her take no prisoners style of delivery rarely helps that.]

That's the whole thing about this 'different worlds' bag. What works in one world doesn't always in another. [It makes conversations annoying sometimes. She has to explain herself a lot more often than she cares to.]

Not as actual practitioners of magic. Primarily I've heard of them as unfortunate women persecuted and murdered for the sake of pure prejudice, or in order to take their land. [Whether it matters to her or not, there's a glimmer of dark disapproval in his eyes for a moment. He doesn't give a damn about witchcraft as such, but people being tortured to death by the authorities is something he does have some Thoughts about.]

I take it it's a real thing in your world, and you're a witch, yourself? [Now he's curious.]

I did try and failed. And learned. [Shrug.] But I assumed you would simply dismiss my experience as weakness rather than bother to apply it to your own situation, so what's the point of discussing it? I am the god of fuck-ups. Next question.

One of the few. [As she listens, Madison pulls out a long, thin cigarette from a pretty silver case covered over with filigree skulls. She snaps her fingers and indicatively produces a small flame from the tip of her thumb.] Those dumbasses didn't even catch any real witches. Just a bunch of scared little girls who never had it coming. The actual descendants with half a brain all took off to the south and formed a bunch of covens down there. [She lights up, and proceeds to blow a thick stream of smoke between them.]

Please. [She cants her head.] Like I'm going to take a lesson from someone I don't even know. Have you seen me? I'm clearly awesome.
