aita?

am i the asshole?

Life isn’t always black and white. Sometimes it’s hard to tell who’s really at fault, and no one wants to believe they’re the bad guy. Sometimes you need an outside opinion. Or several.

Tell your side of the story and crowdsource an honest answer to the age old question; Am I The Asshole?

Top Level

with your character explaining a situation where they might have been the asshole.

Even worse, they did it again. And then again.

Destroying Illum in the process. Such a waste.

Narrow-minded fools so forced on creating technological fear they were unable to understand what they had truly done and the profanity of it.

I'm sure most of the First Order still remembers Alderaan as a victory.

It was a culmination of Palpatine's grudge against His Serene Highness lasting over thirty-two years. It was nothing more than petty cruelty on his part. Tarkin just wanted a 'victory' at any cost, no matter the long-term failure of the plan or how it would backfire. Neither cared for what it would actually do, within the Force or how it would ultimately affect the galaxy.

To call Alderaan's annihilation anything short of a colossal blunder would be a grave mistake.

And yet they did it again with the Hosnian system, and Starkiller Base proved just as simple to destroy with a handful of explosives.

[Did anyone in the First Order learn anything from the places where the Empire failed? It doesn't seem like it.]

The time and resources spent on those projects could have been used so much better elsewhere.

Of course, they did. Assuming Thrawn was still alive, and it's possible he would be, I can only imagine his commentary.

[ It's a pleasant thing to think about, actually. ]

It's like they want to fail.

If he is, I haven't met him.

You said you tried to turn attention to other projects instead of the Death Star. What did you suggest?

Grand Admiral Thrawn was working on a TIE/D Defender Elite program when he vanished, one I was privileged to consult with him on, as an engineer and a pilot. His program would have created hundreds of thousands of TIE defenders, with shields, hyperdrives, and weaponry far advanced of any ship in the galaxy. Instead of one gloated 'super weapon' parked in front of one planet, there could have been a dozen superior weapons planted in front of hundreds of thousands of planets, at once.

It's unfortunate I don't have him to consult with. That seems similar to my own thoughts, but I haven't gotten far on it yet.

[Do you even know how nice it is to have Grandpa validate something he's thinking? Because it's great. Kylo has no actual clue how to be Supreme Leader and someone decided she didn't want to stay and help him figure it out.]

There are some people who just want to build another Starkiller, but obviously, I don't plan on letting them.

I know I kept a copy of the plans he shared. They should still exist on Mustafar. Vaneè would have them uf no one else.

[ Vader knows that cut twice over. Not that he ever truly wanted the Throne. He was quite content to enforce the will of the person on it. Mostly. ]

There isn't another known planet like Ilum. Even before Jedha destroyed it didn't come close.
