Future You

Future You
Whether or not you have a 5 year plan, shit happens. No one knows what tomorrow brings until you're there, looking back at a weird life full of decisions and memories and regrets. Maybe you've changed so much in that time people who knew you then wouldn't even recognize you. Maybe you haven't a changed a bit.
This meme is for one massive time jump. Skip your character's canon ahead 5, 10, 50 years. Whatever. Where are they? Who are they? How do they feel about what's behind them and what's their future look like from here on out?

He's mostly the same as ever. For better or worse.]

who'd have thought nrc's new counselor would be an isekai victim with a weird fuckin' cat?
anyways.
it'd just been running some errands in town, when a familiar face grabs their attention as they pass each other. )
--Rook?

He isn't people-watching when he hears his named called, so it's one of those rare opportunities of someone catching him unawares as he turns, his ponytail swaying before disappearing behind him. His surprise is quick to change into delight when he recognizes Yuu.]
Ah, what a lovely sight for sore eyes! It has been awhile, Trickster!
[He isn't quite as put together as he would have been back in the NRC, especially fresh from air travel with the sun reddening his nose and cheeks. But that familiar, jovial aura is still there.]
no subject
It really has. What brings you by?
( ah- it's probably going to be a bit of catching up, right? so yuu steps to the side, more besides rook than across from him to make room on the sidewalk until they can either find someplace else to chat, or eventually split up. whichever comes first. )

Oh, this is a stopover on my way to the Queendom of Roses. I received word that the mome rath annual migration seems to be starting late this year, so I am hoping to embed myself before everything is underway.
[Did any of that make sense? He continues chattering away, regardless.]
They are rather shy creatures for their impressive numbers. Très fascinant! They will keep me busy, between taking notes and pictures.
[But he shouldn't take up the entire conversation, should he?]
And you? Something tells me you are not here traveling.

( not that she really... had a lot of options, given that she wasn't really a legal citizen to begin with. ah well. at least she can help some of the new kids avoid the problems their class had to deal with.
though, rook's statements serve as yet another reminder that there's so much about this world she still doesn't know, even now. )
What's a mome rath? I've never heard of them.

[Rook scans the upcoming crossroads, knowing which way he has to walk to get to his hotel. It isn't too far from the hub of stores near the port, but still far enough away as to not deal with the worst of noise pollution from leaving ships and emptying taverns.]
Hmm... How to describe a mome rath? It is unclear when they first appeared in the wild, but they were first documented about 150 years ago. A charmingly shy sentient plant that is commonly only seen as a tuft of colorful grass, but will uproot itself when it is time to migrate. Some have documented that patches of mome rath will reveal themselves should someone in distress be lost in their woods, and will attempt to guide the person out.
[He chatters happily, as if falling in love with the idea of the mome raths all over again just recalling those details. This is what you have done to yourself, Yuu.]
no subject
No, no, let them hear it. Some of the boys need a reason that isn't about them to approach me and anything can help. Besides, it's fun. ... And honestly, I don't think I'd register you calling me anything else as actually referring to me.
( never mind the fact that the idea of rook calling her 'yuu'- or worse, yuuna- just feels downright bizarre. "trickser" she's been from the start, and trickster she'll remain.
the mome raths though... what the fuck, that sounds adorable. maybe she should see about getting to travel a little more- a talk with kalim might help, but she doesn't want to impose on his kindness.
so yeah, it may be what she's brought upon herself, but she doesn't mind listening to him ramble away. )
They sound cute. And very sweet. Will you be testing that?
( it's highly doubtful that rook hunt of all people would truly need help getting out of the woods, but he does like his sights and wonders. )
no subject
Ah, and if I called you 'Prefect'? But I suppose that is even less relevant than 'Trickster' nowadays.
[It doesn't roll off his tongue with the same ease, either.]
Testing? Non, non. I will be attempting to take pictures of their migration. It is difficult not to anticipate them looking like a moving rainbow as they are struck by sunlight breaking the treeline! I'm excited to see it in person.

( she says it with such pep, too. though, she's also mostly joking- all things considered, her story is... rather well known at the school at this point. if only because she still lives in ramshackle with grim, the ghosts and the occasional student who needs some space from their regular dorm. sometimes one of the senior teachers shows up for breakfast, which was... weird at first? but ultimately the nrc staff basically raised her. so it's fine.
she stopped thinking of things as 'weird' in her second year here.
oh, but photography- that's something they've always had in common. she should have guessed! )
You'll have to swing by again to show me the results.
no subject
Oui! I will likely be there for a few weeks. But you will still be here with school in session, non? I may have to abscond to your residence if you are on campus.
[You know, instead of waiting around like a normal person.]
so apparently dw ate the notif for this and i for one am offended
she's always liked his laugh, anyways. )
Eh, the emergency key's in the same place as always.
( not just anyone would get blanket permission to enter the ramshackle dorm, of course- but then, rook can reach the scaffold where the key rests with ease and it's easier to just have him let himself in than find out how he broke in this time. ... or, you know, the ghosts could let him in. whichever comes first. but yuu's casual demeanor falters for a moment as she looks up at rook curiously. )
How long until you have to leave?
