People who reminisce about the good old days are ignorant to a degree that is terrifying. Sure, the streets were cleaner (in your part of town) and a lot of life decisions were simpler, but life decisions were simpler because people didn't have choices, and all the beauty and majesty of Days Gone By was usually maintained by an oppressed class.

Murder is the only effective solution to some problems. It's usually called "assassination" or "execution" in those situations, but not always. It's still murder.

That's why there are exceptions to the laws against killing people; sometimes there's nothing else you can do. But you shouldn't pretty it up by calling it something else. You should acknowledge that in this case it was justified.

Self-deception is often the worst kind.
